Akoranga (North) Campus Library open in AS building

Te Mātāpuna ki Akoranga, North Campus Library reopened on Monday 1st of December in a new but temporary space in the AS building.

Reopening follows the completion of a fit-out of the AS building and the move of our library books, services and staff, as well as the Tech Central team. We’ll be operating from AS while the AL building undergoes a full renovation.

We’re excited to welcome you back. Our temporary AS space is a little smaller. This means that borrowing some of the books in our collection will work differently until the AL renovation is complete.

How to borrow: most books will be available via a click and collect service

We’re unable to shelve all our books in student and staff access areas in AS. Most of our physical book collection will be available on a click and collect basis.

  • Use the library search function to find titles and request them for pick up
  • You’ll receive a notification when your book is ready for collection
  • Your book will be available for pick up from the all-access area shelves (your notification will include all the detail of how to find your items)

How to borrow: short loans, high-circulated books and interloan requests

Our most-used titles will be shelved and made available to browse and borrow quickly in all-access areas.

  • Our short loan/high-demand collection is available for you in the AS space. Browse and borrow using the self-checkout machines or the library helpdesk
  • Books that are highly circulated for coursework and research will also be available in this way shortly
  • Submit interloan requests anytime (starting now). Items will be available in January after the end-of-year break.

Where to return books

The returns slot is by the entrance to the library staff area. Return books here or to the library help desk during opening hours. Outside opening hours, you can drop books off for return to City or Manukau Campus Library.

Where can postgraduate students work?

Sixteen study spaces and 11 computers have been set up for postgraduate use in AS104. If you are a postgraduate student and have an access card for the previous North Campus postgraduate space in AL, your card has been automatically updated to give you access to AS104.  A printer will be installed at a future date.

It’s library-as-usual in most regards, including

  • Tech Central are with Te Mātāpuna Library & Learning in AS
  • Please don’t bring hot food into the library space—take it to the reheat area next to AUTSA
  • Operating hours are on our website
  • The library is a great place to study—in the smaller AS space, please continue to show consideration for those working hard around you
  • If you have questions, please get in touch

The AL renovation will take approximately 12 months. We’re looking forward to welcoming you to our new purpose-designed Akoranga Campus Library in AL in due course.
