ProQuest databases cancellation 2018

In light of the current budget constraints across the University the Library has made the decision to cancel most of the ProQuest resources in order to subscribe to some important new resources.

A comprehensive review was undertaken of the following ProQuest databases: ABI/INFORM, Accounting & Tax Database, Asian & European Business Collection, Education Database, Entrepreneurship Database, Health & Medical Collection, Nursing & Allied Health Database, Social Science Database, ERIC, (also available via the Ovid platform) and ProQuest Dissertations & Theses Global.

The review of these databases included an overlap analyses (comparing the content with other existing subscriptions), usage statistics and where necessary, research impact. It became apparent that much of the useful content is duplicated in other existing subscriptions.  Where worthy content was not available from existing subscriptions individual subscriptions have been purchased.

In consultation with the relevant Liaison Librarians and faculty staff, it was agreed that subscriptions to the databases above, with the exception of ProQuest Dissertations & Theses Global, would not be renewed for 2018. There will be no change to access to ProQuest e-books.

The savings made have permitted the purchase of subscriptions for the following essential new resources:

  • Treaty of Waitangi eBook Collection
  • New Zealand Sign Language eBook Collection
  • Practical Guidance: Governance
  • Australian Work Health & Safety Law Reporter
  • Lippincott Procedures
  • John Benjamins Online Journal Collection
  • UNWTO Elibrary
  • MethodsNow
  • American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE) journals
  • KARGER Online Journal Collection
  • CINAHL Complete (upgrade)
